For a long time people have been confounded as to why gun violence is such a rampant phenomenon in the United States, but anyone who understands basic history of how this place came to be a little more than 200 years ago 'til today can easily understand that the whole idea of America was basically founded and enforced by gun violence (without also considering biological and chemical warfare).
I'm not a complete pessimist, but it boggles my mind that people can't just very easily understand that gun violence is the price you pay for having a history that literally allows the holder of the most guns to reign over everyone else and be considered a hero.
The remnants and consequences of this kind of "manifest destiny" are going to get even worse if the systematized injustices aren't addressed and reversed somehow. There should be a Ministry of Reconciliation which basically goes around giving everyone their fair share. For example, black people worked for hundreds of years for free and made this country an actual superpower in the world by cultivating an actual good (pay attention here anyone younger than millennial; we used to actually value tangible things as products, not just zeroes, ones and services). The Ministry would calculate exactly how much historical value that labor was worth (bazillions) and compensate all black people with slave ancestors (with back pay for every year denied) for their role in creating the most powerful nation on earth. They'd basically not just get a president, but like all of Congress and the House and a ton of industries and money... That's just one of the many projects which I think will be among the first steps in making this place more peaceful for our children to live in.
You wanna solve a big problem? You have to have a big, historically grounded solution.
